Amanda Wilkins
My first theatre experience when I was taken to see Dick Whittington at the age of 4 1/2 by my parents and I have loved it ever since, especially musicals. When I left school I worked as a production secretary at Nottingham Playhouse for five years and we had some great actors there, Peter O'Toole, Dennis Quilley, Michael Hordern, Penelope Wilton. We also had shows transfer to London so I got to several West End First Nights.
I went into journalism after working in the theatre both as a staff reporter and a freelance, specialising in Celebrity Interviews because of the contacts I made at Nottingham. I also worked as a secretary at Glyndebourne Festival Opera for three years. I have been the theatre critic for Sussex Express, a weekly newspaper, for three years and I cover Eastbourne where we have some great shows.
I love tennis and started in journalism as a tennis reporter, but decided to switch back to my original love, theatre as there is so much happening at the moment with two or three new musicals opening in London's West End this year.
One of the most exciting things I've done is seeing "Carmen" in Sydney Opera House in 2005, it was an experience I will never forget.
